How and When did Midshore Cares start?

Mid-Shore Cares was established on October 8, 2003, through the far-sighted wisdom of the trustees of the Goodwill Foundation in Caroline County. Some $196,000 in assets had been left to the Goodwill Foundation through the testimentary documents of Dr. Joseph Tanner and his wife Marilyn, to be used "for the benefit, aid and assistance of the most worthy cases--in Caroline County, either charitable institutions or needy and deserving residents." Recognizing that the formation of such a foundation would facilitate additional charitable assets for the Mid-Shore region, the Goodwill Directors voted to use the bequest as the nucleus gift for Mid-Shore Cares.

How large is Midshore Cares?

Within the foundation there are more than 35 charitable funds established according to donors' wishes to serve a particular purpose in the region. Their total value is more than $3.2 million.

What region does Midshore Cares serve?

Residents of Caroline County, or recent graduates from Caroline County public schools, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
